In addition to saving dance parents time and money, the dress code:

  1. Helps a young dancer understand they are going to a structured class (compared to unstructured playtime).
  2. Ensures that the clothing is not a distraction during class.
  3. Ensures that the dancer is appropriately dressed to be necessarily covered.
  4. Ensures that each dancer has the same brand, style and color of shoes and tights for on stage performances. The IDC Dress Code is mandatory; however several times per season during parent observation days, dancers may wear whatever they choose to class.

DRESS CODE POLICIES

It’s important for students to abide by a dress code policy for the following reasons:

  • A neat and tidy appearance sets an attitude of attentiveness and respect for students, teachers, and the art of dance.
  • Helps a young dancer understand they are going to a structured class (compared to unstructured playtime).
  • Teachers must be able to see the dancer’s body outline clearly in order to make proper corrections on posture, alignment, etc.
  • Hair must be properly secured and tied up off of the face and neck for all styles of dance.
  • Jewelry must not be loose or dangling.
  • Gum chewing is not allowed due to danger of choking and appearance.
  • No blue jeans. (They are not dance attire).
  • No costumes are allowed in class unless the individual teacher announces a dress up day.
